Chicago three-piece visit London bringing unabashed indie pop gems in concise packaging

Chicago three-piece Dehd returned to London for their second ever headline show in the city at Shoreditch’s Village Underground. This was one of two UK dates on a European tour in support of recent album Poetry, which built on the success of 2022’s breakout single Bad Love.

In a week full of hesitant optimism, with the prospect of a new government and a semi final place for the England football team lingering in the air but not yet corporeal enough to touch, Dehd brought the right sound at the right time, restraint and joy hand in hand, like the victories that were to come.

We were just in time to catch the last few songs from up-and-coming Corkonians Cardinals, including the mini epic closer If I Could Make You Care from their recent self-titled EP. With the accordion contrasting with a slow build of post rock-accented guitar squall, they captured the quickly filling room’s attention despite a temporary bar setup that created an unfamiliar bottleneck for a thirsty crowd on a sticky evening.
